A recent study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research was designed to determine the %VO2max (aerobic capacity) and energy expenditure (calories burned) from different Wii Fit™ games (step and hula) at both the beginner and intermediate levels
Eight healthy female subjects participated in the study.Results showed that the intermediate hula and step games produced the greatest energy expenditure with an equivalent effect of a walking speed of greater than 5.63 km/hr (3.5 mi/hr). The highest aerobic capacity values were achieved during the intermediate hula game.These findings suggest that the Wii Fit™ can be used as an effective activity for promoting physical health in the adult population.
