In order to run the fasted possible time, an efficient 3-point position is critical. The correct position enables athletes to start quickly and position the body for acceleration and ultimately leads to top speed. The procedure for set up is as follows:

  1. Step 1: Place the toes of the rear foot exactly one shoe length behind the starting line.
  2. Step 2: Place the opposite toes at the heels of the front foot.
  3. Step 3: Use a hip distance from side to side.
  4. Step 4: If your left foot is forward your right hand will be right behind the starting line
  5. Step 5: Raise the hips above shoulder level
  6. Step 6: Bend the elbow of the left arm to 90 degrees and raise the arm to full extension.
  7. Step 7: Tuck the head slightly downward
  8. Step 8: Balance your weight between the front and rear foot.
