Mark is currently an NSCA Board Member and is the Owner of Performance Zone, a Fitness and Training Center in Granbury, Texas. He has been an active member of the NSCA since 1987. Mark is the former Texas State Director and has served on a number of NSCA committees including: Membership, Conference, Nominating, By-Laws, and was the Chair for the Sport-Specific Conference Committee. |

Dr. Haff is currently a member of the NSCA Board of Directors and an assistant professor in the Division of Exercise Physiology at the Medical School at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Interview with a Member ![]() Lori briefly discusses nutrition programs for military personnel Lori Tubbs is a registered dietitian and certified specialist in sports dietetics. Lori has been working with military commands over the past 9 years with a wide scope of experience ranging from providing nutrition support to special operations commands, training fitness command leaders on aircraft carriers, submarines and within the aviation community, and developing performance nutrition training programs. She is currently co-writing the Special Operations Nutrition Handbook which will be published next summer. Lori is an adjunct professor in sports nutrition at Norfolk State University and owns a private consulting business working with marathoners, triathletes and ultra distance racers. She runs for the Clif Bar Marathon Pace Team and is currently training for the Lake Placid Ironman Competition in July 2007. |

Interview with a Member ![]() Dr. Binkley discusses Women in Strength Training. Dr. Binkley is the Director of the Undergraduate Athletic Training Program at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was elected as a member of the NSCA Board of Directors 2004 - 2007, and chaired the NSCA Education Committee. She has also volunteered for countless other NSCA committees as well as written numerous articles for the journals. Dr. Binkley has a B.S. in physical and health education, M.S. in athletic training, Ph.D. in exercise physiology, was a varsity athlete, a sports coach, athletic trainer, personal trainer, and a strength training and conditioning educator. |

Karyn is a certified Athletic Trainer with 20 years of experience in all applications of Sports Medicine including traditional athletic training in the university, high school and clinical settings, personal fitness training and strength and conditioning. She is currently part of the management team at S.T.E.P.S. Personal Training gym in Nashville, TN (the largest personal training only gym in the world). Karyn believes in training and educating the whole person and works with each client to design safe and effective programs that will strengthen "weak links" and lead to an enhanced level of health and fitness. In addition to her hands-on work with clients, she oversees the training student interns in the area of personal training and provides continuing education seminars for rehabilitation and fitness professionals. She brings a passion and enthusiasm to her presentations and keeps the day moving with "hands-on" activities. |

Mark Stephenson is the Director/Head Coach for the NSCA Human Performance Center. He has over 16 years of experience working with elite, professional, collegiate, and high school athletes. Coach Stephenson has worked in the private, professional, and Division I arenas. Prior to coming to the NSCA, he served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Providence College where he worked primarily with Men's Basketball and Men's and Women's Ice Hockey. Dr. Kraemer is currently a Professor in the Human Performance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Connecticut. A former President of the NSCA, and winner of several awards including the Educator of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Kraemer has been a College Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as Football Coach. Interview with a Member ![]() Jeff discusses his triumph over MS through strength and Conditioning. Currently Jeff is the owner of Balanced Personal Training, Inc, as well as co-owner of Personalize Your Fitness, LLC. His companies are based in south Florida where he is a personal trainer and motivational speaker. Jeff is also the 2007 NSCA Personal Trainer of the Year. At the age of 25, Jeffrey Segal was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Within two years, he was spending the better part of his days in a wheelchair due to balance difficulties, partial paralysis, visual impairment, chronic fatigue, and a host of other symptoms common to those with MS. Jeff was unwilling to yield to the disease, and instead, launched his own wellness and rehabilitation program. |

Interview with a Member ![]() Al discusses his training philosophies. Al Vermeil is the only strength coach to have World Championship rings from BOTH the NFL and the NBA. He is also the only strength coach who has been in the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball. Al was honored by being one of the initial inductees to the Strength Coaches Hall of Fame in June 2003 Al is President of Vermeil Sports and Fitness, Inc. VSF specializes in athletic assessment, conditioning and training. All clients receive individualized evaluations and programs. VSF is currently a consultant to the Chicago Bulls. |

Dr. Brown is a longtime National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) member and currently serves as the President. He is a Professor of Strength and Conditioning in the Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton where he performs research into the human neuromuscular adaptations to high velocity exercise. His extensive and impressive professional resume includes a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University and a Master's in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University. |

Interview with a Member ![]() Doug answers questions on his philosophy for training young and beginner athletes. Doug Lentz is the Director of Fitness and Wellness for Chambersburg Health Services in Pennsylvania. Doug was the Pennsylvania State Director for the NSCA from 1992 until May of 1998. He received a BS degree from Pennsylvania State University. Doug has been involved in the strength and conditioning of athletes for over 20 years. Some of the athletes Doug has aided include: former KC Chief's quarterback Matt Blundin, #1 ranked US Marathoner, Steve Spense. Doug is a USA Weightlifting Federation Club Coach and is on the Editorial Board for the American Running Association. |

John Graham is the President of Power, Agility, Speed, and Graham Medical Fitness Consulting in Allentown, Pennsylvania. John has been heavily involved with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for many years within the following areas: Conference Committee, Speaker at national, regional, and local NSCA conferences, Column Editor for the Exercise Technique Column in Strength and Conditioning Journal, Member of the NSCA Board of Directors 2001 - 2004. John served as the Vice President of the NSCA from July 2002 - July 2003, Secretary/Treasurer of the NSCA from July 2003 - July 2004.
