NSCA welcomes former U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist, Rulon Gardner, as a Keynote Speaker during July’s National Conference in Las Vegas. Gardner is perhaps most well known for his defeat of Alexander Karelin in the 2000 Summer Olympics. After winning the bronze during the 2004 Olympics in Athens, he left his shoes on the mat as the traditional symbol of retirement from competitive Greco-Roman Wrestling. Aside from his Olympic medals, his achievements are numerous and inspiring. Join us as Gardner shares his lifetime triumphs through his motivational presentation during the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, July 10, 2008.

Technique to Eliminate Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness

Researchers hypothesized that the most effective strategy for reducing Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is by using a pre-exercise technique. Other forms of DOMS relief such as topical analgesics and dietary supplements are not preventative, do not speed muscle recovery time, nor have they eliminated DOMS. Therefore, the current research was aimed at eliminating DOMS during vigorous anaerobic resistance training.

The most effective method of training acceleration for sprint speed has not yet been universally agreed upon. The purpose of this study was to compare and determine the effects of resistive ground based and inclined treadmill training on sprint start speed and the kinematics that affect that speed. The researchers hypothesized that incline treadmill training would improve sprint start speed and increase stride frequency, while resistive ground based training would neither improve speed, nor kinematics.
